The Energy Peat Europe (EPE) represents energy peat industry at EU level. EPE is committed to the highest environmental practices in energy peat extraction and to the responsible use of peat as a local energy source.
The Energy Peat Europe's main purpose is to promote the role of energy peat as a critical indigenous and local energy source in Europe. The association is responsible for the coordination of common positions, the dissemination of scientific information, the organization of public events and the assessment of technical and regulatory issues affecting the entire European industry. The association also monitors European and national legislation and works together with policy makers to promote a strategic, responsible and sound-economic policy for the industry.
Currently the most relevant challenges for the industry are: Emissions Trading Scheme (ETS) preparation for the period of 2021-2030; Updating of EU's Large Combustion Plants (LCP) BAT Reference (BREF) document guidelines and; Security of energy supply because of several changes in the energy market.
Peat production provides job opportunities for hundreds of youngsters e.g. students during summer season.
